Vietnam- Ha Long Bay

Pictures taken at Ha Long Bay Vietnam.

Stayed over night on ‘junk” boat. Climbed to top of mountain to get good views. Also had a swim.

Houses are on rafts so they rise and fall with the tides. They have no electricity. A few have a generator which they can only run an hour a day, it’s all the gasoline they can afford. Most houses have a fish farm under neath, which they take to the market. A “supermarket boat” comes around a few times a day. The kids looked really happy playing in the water and their little boats.

The day after we all left the area they had a typhoon. the village is built in the shelter of the mountains for protection

Flying with Geoff

March 31st, Rhiannon’s 4th birthday.

We had early start arriving at Archerfield Airport at 7am. Geoff had to perform all the preflight checks and we took off at 7.45. He said he was a bit nervous as we were his first passengers. Flew out over the western suburbs, University and could see the  city, which was a bit hazy, then over Samsonvale and headed to Redcliffe Airport. Landed there just long enough for a toilet stop. Took off again and headed for the Sunshine coast.

Geoff was busy most of the time talking to the towers and writing down lots of information. He pointed out the landmarks so I knew where we were. Rhi was very quite, taking it all in, with a big smile all the time. We were able to talk to each other via the mics and headphones. Headphones were necessary as it was noisy especially during take off.

There was no in flight entertainment but we had in- flight snacks!!!!!!! 🙂 , we needed Davey with his trolley.

Before we could approach Maroochydore airport we had to go up around Mt Coolum for the approach. Geoff did a touch and go at Maroochydore airport then flew out over Somerset and Wivenhoe dams. There is so much water everywhere; after having  2 years of rain the landscape was very lush. We could see water skiers on Wivenhoe, and could also see all the water being released from the dam.. Flying over lake Manchester was very pretty as there was lots of blue-green algae around the edges. Flying low over the Ipswich highway gives you a different perspective of the road structure with all the flyovers and underpasses.    Touched down at Archerfield after 1¼ hr.   What a wonderful experience for the 3 of us.

Some of these were taken at Xmas at Geoff’s house.  Rachelle is Rhys’s girlfriend.

Those with Dan were taken when he went to a high school formal.

Jan and Steve in Brisbane 2011. Dan always likes to go out with them, he gets a free feed!!!

Photos of Holley and Jaz I took in Wales, Jaz is such a “poser”.

Young boys are Cade and Taylan, Jan’s grandsons.

I was also happy  to meet up with my Dad’s brother, my only remaining uncle. He would not tell me his age, I think around 88.
